Consumer Reports found the 2005 version of the Nissan Sentra sadly out of date compared to other small cars. While praising the fuel-efficient engine, smooth transmission, and pleasant interior, they report that the ride is stiff, the back seat cramped, and the braking a bit wimpy. Poor crash test scores didn’t help matters, either.

This version of the Sentra had fallen behind most competing small cars. Still, it has an efficient and willing engine, an automatic transmission, secure handling and fairly pleasant interior quality. On the negative side, the ride is a bit too stiff, the rear seat is cramped and braking falls a bit short.

2005 Sentra bought used with 70,000 miles, now up to 158,000 miles. The car has been impressive with reliability. I have never touched engine or transmission. Did replace alternator, radiator, cv joints, and wear-and-tear items such as brakes and ball joints. The body and paint have held up very well, though I will say the engine sounds "tinny."
