A thyroid nodule is an unusual lump (growth) of cells on your thyroid gland. The thyroid gland is a small, butterfly-shaped endocrine gland located in your neck, below your Adam's apple. The growth of a thyroid nodule may be caused by a variety of conditions that affect the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland, which plays a large role in our body’s everyday functioning, produces hormones that help control metabolism, heart rate, and breathing.
